Penciling things in…

alphabet pencils

Alphabet Pencils –  I guess I will always be fascinated by the very idea of this!

It’s been a few months since I’ve posted anything and now I feel obliged to get back into it. I think I still have one subscriber (Hi Carol) and  I see that people still occasionally Google  – How to Draw a Snail and Madrone Tree/Marin County. That’s about it. It’s more “hits” than my other attempted site – Cyber Pencil.

Somehow I have to keep telling myself I am making some kind of Cyber Sense or Success or Progress. I have clearly walked away for the idea of working with SquareSpace and that clarity feels good. I haven’t given up on WordPress but am now curious about Adobe Muse. It’s new to me and I have developed an unexpected attraction to it. I’m told it is the replacement for Dreamweaver and they offer a free trial which I think I will go for. I’m now predicting that 2016 will be a Website/Blog year for me and I sure hope I am more comfortable with it if that’s the case. I’m getting a little tired of Starting Over but I do realize I don’t seem to be able to walk away from it.

I’ve set up a new Drawing practice plan that’s a;long the order of what I did with hammers a year ago. The subject kept me focused and this time it’s Apples for my Focal Point. I’m calling it the 21 Day Apple Challenge and am now on Day 11. So far they are all pencil drawings but the main thing is I have not skipped a day.

Knock Knock

Coffee Art is the highlight of the month because I have signed on to participate in my first Art Show. AbraCaDabra Now I feel obliged (pressured!) to focus on something. A collection. The commitment forces me to Turn Up the Heat and move my coffee buzz to the front burner. My instruction manual is asking me to fine tune my Coffee Collection and to blog about what it feels like to Go VisibleInvisible is now my new Deal-Breaker. Theodore Roosevelt said “Daring Greatly is to be in the Arena”. If you are curious about his – The Entire Speech. here it is.

Last night I met with four of the eight artists that will be “Showing” It felt good that I felt so good to be in their presence. At least for now my stage fright doesn’t seem to be as blinding as I was fearing.

For now I am putting the Hammers away for awhile to make room for a more variety in my coffee paintings. I still like my focus on Just Hammers and the exercise kept me drawing every morning for over a month. I was pleased to find a Just Nails artist! Only Nails Art

The Story of the Pencil
This link goes to Pencils.com and it’s loaded with Pencil information and fun.
The amazing pencil, technology and tradition
One pencil has the potential to draw a line 35 miles long, write an average of 45,000 words, absorb 17 sharpenings, delete it’s own errors and beat out an infinite number of drum solos. But let’s get right to the point. Because pencils are so useful and so dominant in daily life, they tend to be taken for granted. And yet, it’s a fact that pencils truly are one of the greatest technological inventions of all times, the original tech toy, providing the springboard for launching all expressions of art, design and communications.
Here’s a myth buster: There is no lead in pencils. Rather, the core is made up of a non-toxic mineral called graphite. The common name “pencil lead” is due to an historic association with the stylus made of lead in ancient Roman times.
