Valentines Day cards from a few years ago. Painting with beet juice is hard to beat (oh, ha ha!) It also works great for hair dye.

How to Draw a Snail for Snail Mail

It’s easy to quickly draw a snail on the address side of every letter you mail. This snail image will make your mailman happy. I like to add the phrase “Save Snail Mail” along with the line drawing of the snail. Just enlarge the image on this post and follow the steps to draw a perfect snail every time.

Snail Mail & the Demise of our Corner Mailboxes

The days of corner mailboxes are vanishing fast as the USPS has removed most of them.

The article on the front page of sfgate.com is about how the traditional mail boxes are on their way out. It was of no surprise to me that so many of the comments were about how very sad that is. Please read this article and then start drawing snails on all of your Snail Mail.

If you don’t think you can draw a snail believe me – You can. Just follow the steps in my How to Draw a Snail post.

The U.S. Postal Service must make massive changes if it is going to survive.
Deliverance
By Annie Lowrey Posted Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 It is hard to think of a better deal than mailing a letter. In exchange for nothing more than a first-class stamp, the U.S. Postal Service will come to your house, pick up your envelope, and deliver it anywhere in the country. If you got the address wrong, it will bring the letter back. The cost? A mere 44 cents. But, please read the linked post for the disappointing details for the future.

This is Great
Snail Mail My Email is a month-long worldwide collaborative art project that ran from July 15 – August 15, 2011. The project allowed people to email a letter, which was then handwritten by volunteers — follow the link to read about the entire project.

Save the Stamp – Save Snail Mail

Snail Mail - Save the Snail

Snail Mail – Save the Snail

Last week I ordered postage stamps online to be delivered via Snail Mail. Now it has come to my attention that I will experience a personal loss when we no longer have a Post Office or Snail Mail. I believe there is still a huge population of people that love to write letters, mail letters and receive mail that is not email. The kind of mail delivered in person to your home or business. Just hearing the familiar sound of the mail truck pulling up and stopping at a mailbox can take many of us all the way back to childhood.

Forever Stamps - Snail Mail Forever

Forever Stamps – Stamps Forever

Postage stamps are Art. They are Collectable Art. Postage stamps are another example of paper being replaced by digital technology. Yes, we can still have email but let’s try to keep our mail “pretty” as long as possible and buy stamps. Save Snail Mail if we can.

This is just another WordPress project to help me explore and learn more about blogging.

The Lone Star quilt block is likely one of the most recognizable quilt patterns to Americans. It is also one of the oldest patterns, along with the Mariner’s Compass, Orange Peel, Job’s Trouble and Irish chain. But this is a pattern known by many names. There are variations of it with 6 points, 8 points (the most common design) or even more. Various Lone Star quilt pattern names are given to the pattern with a large central star, made up of diamond shaped fabric to form the star points from the center out. Often the colors are chosen and placed to form what appear to be concentric circles radiating around the center. It is placed in the center of the quilt top and can be appliquéd down to the background or pieced in. Sometimes other tiny stars are placed in the large blank areas surrounding the star, or flowers may be appliquéd in those areas.
